Following the release of the Blackberry Torch 9800, a year later, RIM introduced the Blackberry Torch 9810. The two smartphones, which are both part of the Torch family, are similar in physical design but differ almost completely when it come to the software. The Blackberry Torch just like its counterparts the Blackberry Bold 9900 and Blackberry Bold 9930 uses the new blackberry 7 OS. Its previous version the Torch 9800 has a full touch display and also a physical keypad. The same is also seen in the torch 9810. The Torch 9810 is however more sleek-looking, than the torch 9800. It measures 4.3 by 2.4 by 0.54 inches, while the Torch 8900 is 4.4 by 2.4 by 0.6 inches. The Torch 9810 has a more flashy color scheme consisting of silver and black unlike the Torch 9800 that had only black and chrome. Another feature that sets the two apart is the pixel display. The Torch 9810 is a more improved version of its predecessor. It has a 640X480 pixel display while the Torch 9800 had 360X480 pixels.

In comparison with the Blackberry Bold 9900, the Torch 9810 is decidedly similar to this blackberry make. The design of both phones differs as the blackberry torch 9810 has a slide QWERTY keypad while the bold 9900 does not. The sliding factor in the torch 9810 makes it a bit thicker than the Bold 9900. The Torch screen size is much bigger with a 3.2 inches screen as compared to the Bold’s 2.8 inch display. They however have the same screen resolution of 480X640 pixels. On the same note, they also have another similarity in performance. These two blackberries are side by side with a 1.2 GHz processor and they both use the new Blackberry OS 7. Both blackberries have an internal 8GB memory storage which can be expanded up to a generous 32GB.

The Blackberry Torch 9860 and the Blackberry Torch 9810 are the predecessors of the original Blackberry Torch 9800. The Torch 9860 beats the Torch 9810 at screen size, resolution and design. They are however apart from that identical in hardware, camera, network, OS, memory and performance. The Torch 9810 has a screen size of 3.2 inches and a display of 480X640 pixels. The Torch 9860 has a screen as wide as 3.7 inches and a display of 480X800 pixels. The Torch 9860 has a Candybar design with a full touch screen, while the Torch 9810 has a slider and QWERTY physical keyboard. The torch 9860s memory is half that of the Torch 9810 which has 8GB expandable memory. On another note hand the two share some similarities. The both blackberry makes run on the same OS (blackberry 7), have the same 1.2GHz processor that comes with a 768Mb worth of RAM. Their cameras have a 5-megapixel shooter with features like autofocus, image stabilization and face recognition.

It was announced by RIM’s CEO earlier that there is nothing wrong with the company despite the plunging value of its shares as evidenced last week. While the company’s stocks are badly damaged due to its poor sales, they are not losing hope. This seems ironic as RIM’s current value has dipped to an all time low since eight years ago.

What seemed like a wholehearted effort from its recently appointed CEO to wait for its “next big thing” in 2013, the Waterloo based company is facing a tough expedition as it tries to revive itself from its struggles. The CEO went on to say that the state of the company at the moment is stable and reassures investors and users not to worry since they’ll do whatever it takes to excite the world with what it will offer later.

Since Mr. Heins took over as the new CEO earlier this year in replacing the company’s founder and business partner, nothing much has changed except the fact that the shares have considerably gotten worse. While rumours are swirling of Heins trying to break up or putting the company for sale, none of that was confirmed. Currently, RIM has asked services from several bankers for strategic options in resolving the company’s current financial crisis.

RIM’s stock value since its peak 4 years ago took a major dive as its previous shares of $147 per share have dropped to an all-time low at $7.35 on Tuesday’s closing. Add that and a total loss of nearly $200 million, plans for the introduction of the new BlackBerry 10 platform has been pushed on the early half of next year.

RIM reassured its investors and its loyal customers how it would shift the tide when it introduces its new BlackBerry platform as well as its new line of devices in 2013. It is said the revamped platform will give users an enriching experience allowing them to use the new handsets in various everyday applications such as credit card payments, ticket booths and even interconnecting them with today’s high end desktop PCs and other computers.

While many believe RIM has finally met its end, others aren’t giving up too easily. The company is said to be in a major transition on a make-or-break scenario that would determine its faith in the succeeding years ahead. We’ve all witnessed several years ago when BlackBerry became the hottest thing the mobile world has ever seen as it brought the world to a new era of wireless communication. But sadly, this hasn’t been the case as many users have been irritated with BlackBerry’s lack of creativity and drive to pick its line of devices off from the ashes.

While many are all too familiar with the downfalls of RIM, no one is writing out BlackBerry just yet. There is still hope. But it will take drastic measures to turn the once-dominating phone maker into a powerhouse like it was positioned to be several years ago.

While there are still loyalists out there who feel that BlackBerry will be their only devices, some are already having second thoughts in making a move to another stable and evolving brand. If anyone has been keeping a close eye on today’s tech news and updates, BlackBerry is headed for Doomsville one way or another. If the losses were dealt with quickly enough, RIM might have the chance to rebound. But unfortunately, the losses were too heavy for any action to be done.

Another sad turn RIM has been forced to implement is cutting off over several thousand of its workers. The earnings for the first few months of this year were less than what was initially expected and RIM can’t hide the fact that it will lose over $500 million on its first quarter. Sales of the RIM’s latest line of devices have dipped to nearly 50% last year. While BlackBerry is rumoured to be working on an entirely new mobile operating system that will be revolutionary, RIM won’t likely make a release this year. Instead, a projected debut will be made on the first half of next year.
